The Tesla driver did a U turn into a wall over/between parking blocks then ran into the side of another car and threw it (coworker’s car). The driver speaks no English and neither does anyone he called.

I bet some locals can guess what happened...

I can’t guess what happened. Your scenario doesn’t make sense to me.

Battery pack coolant, yes. They are apparently preparing to drive it. I should follow them so I can get video of a Tesla fire.

Yeah, I am so confused. Somehow the dude got the car perpendicular to the other car and ran into the front corner (not pictured: the other car). He had to straddle the parking stops to get there (see the line of coolant on the ground?). He was apparently turning into a parking spot, somehow got all the way around, then backed it out and parked it there in the parking spot that I think he was aiming for.

Some of this is speculation because nobody speaks English that is involved.

1. Move to Washington! (Not that far from home, yet still America. Look for White House and Lincoln memorial, probably hidden in trees.)

2. Buy car. Something practical. Under $150k.

3. If any time left, figure out driving.

4. Job??

Welcome to Western WA’s east side. So much hot Chinese money flowing through this area, it’s unreal. So many people that can’t drive here, too. It isn’t just race, but it’s usually fairly predictable.

I may need to draw a picture. It was that crazy. I have seen more remarkable and inexplicable accidents since moving here...

Also note that the ground was bone dry and it was daytime.

It’s sad that they are just reinforcing stereotypes, both the “Asians can’t drive” and “Chinese foreign investors are assholes”.

Damned Mandarin speakers ruining the reputation of all East Asians.

If they can’t speak one word of English, they’ve got to be from China, and not Hong Kong or Macau.

I could, too. Those were such a terrible idea. I strongly suspect they are, although it’s also possible that the driver wasn’t licensed. I mean, how else do you get a license if you can’t speak English?

We had a similar situation with an unlicensed driver a number of years ago that did something eerily similar and couldn’t speak any English. Eventually someone turned up that could after the police showed up, but we were screwed because the car and driver were uninsured (of course). I believe it ultimately fell to our property insurance and our car was uninsured/inoperable.

It wouldn’t surprise me if that was why he was there. The lot is kind of hell between that massage parlor and all the Indian & Chinese housewives coming/going with their children with serious behavioral problems... I hate parking there because I’ve seen numerous accidents over the last 6 months I’ve been there. One of the reasons my wife and I carpool.

It’s just that there are so many folks that are basically “teen” drivers in the area. 25% of the population in the area has been driving for less than a year. There is a 4 way stop just west of Redmond that I drive through routinely - and 90% of the time I run into somebody that simply doesn’t know what to do. Some people blow through, some folks sit there forever, some folks will stop then immediately go regardless if somebody else is there. Honestly, it’s not much different than 50 years ago in a different local neighborhood, Ballard, which at the time was full of Scandinavian immigrants. You just have to try not get in the way of folks that don’t know what they are doing.

How? By paying the fee, of course. At least these people often have so much money that if the mess up, they will pay or can be made to pay. Small consolation for some of the other issues, but I suppose better than nothing.

I bet local car dealers have some harrowing tales of test drives, too.

Oh, a funny update - I stopped at Silver Lake and asked about the KOMO car. They have it, but it is not ready for display - yet. I was told they are working on it, but no ETA.

I’m just not sure the risk is worth the tax revenue. People need to realize that even though they’re common, a car is a 1.5+ ton death machine and shouldn’t be operated by people that can’t be trusted with that responsibility. If someone had been in the wrong place, that could have killed or permanently injured someone...

I did wonder if you checked, since you hadn’t mentioned anything about it. I’m glad to hear it and hope they have it in presentable condition soon.

I don’t think the powers that be care. These are the same people who turn a blind eye to money laundering in local real estate. Money cures all ills, and it’s not like they can be fired. And to be fair, the idiocy I see from those who aren’t new to driving in the western world seems to want to compete with the newbies. Locally, if the po-po would put the same effort into turn signal, distracted driving, and crosswalk enforcement as they do simple arbitrary speed enforcement, they could probably pay the national debt. Maybe the worst part is that if someone was harmed, the penalty wouldn’t even be a slap on the wrist.

If I find the car is viewable again, I will post about it, and probably end up driving hours to see a neglected 1978 Mercury Monarch.
